This 15-day Morocco hiking tour takes you on a relaxing Jebel Toubkal trek, with plenty of time to enjoy the nature and culture. You'll trek over both high and low passes, each offering a new, beautiful view. You'll walk through green valleys with small, clay villages the same color as the surrounding mountains. Slopes covered with small terraced fields for barley and oats. We'll loop through Toubkal National Park, and also through more remote valleys where we'll encounter only a shepherd with his herd of goats and sheep. The varied approach allows ample time to acclimatize to the altitude. This makes Morocco's highest peak – Jebel Toubkal – accessible to everyone. Take it easy, that's the best guarantee of success. And once you reach the top: what an experience "on top of the world" with views of all the other peaks!

Jebel Toubkal 15 days

Day 1 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Arrival in Marrakech

Arrive at Marrakech Airport. Transfer of approximately 20 minutes to the old walled city center of Marrakech. Stay in a charming small riad near the famous Jemaa el-Fna square. Every evening, the square offers a unique spectacle with street performers of all kinds and rows of food stalls selling freshly squeezed orange juice.

Day 2 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Stay in Marrakech

A full day in Marrakech to visit the historic sights of this royal city with its rich past, or to wander through the narrow alleyways of the souks filled with crafts and shops. A great way to start the trip is with a cycling tour of Marrakech’s highlights or a cooking workshop, including shopping at the local market with your chef.

Overnight stay in a riad hotel in the Marrakech medina. Alt. 450 m.

Day 3 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Transfer to the mountains – start of the trek

Transfer to the mountains, approximately 1.5 hours. The trek begins in the small village of Aguersioual at 1,500 m. Mule drivers are waiting to load the luggage. With the small caravan, the walk starts with a climb to the Tizi-n-Aguersioual pass at 2,050 m. Afterwards, the route descends into the remote Imenane Valley, dotted with tiny Berber villages such as Ikkiss, Tinerghourine, Tamguist, and Ouaneskra. Just outside the highest village of Tacheddirt at 2,400 m, the first bivouac is set up.

Walking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight in a bivouac near Tacheddirt. Alt. 2,400 m.

Day 4 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Tacheddirt – Azib Likemt – Azib Ououraï

From Tacheddirt at 2,400 m, the trek continues as civilization is slowly left behind. A steep zigzag ascent leads to the high Tizi Likemt pass at 3,555 m, opening the way into the next valley. A pleasant descent follows to the summer village of Azib Likemt, where shepherds stay with their herds during the summer months. The route then continues through the deserted valley of the Asif-n-Tinzer stream, with the bivouac set up near Azib Ououraï, below the 3,000 m pass of the same name.

Walking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight in a bivouac at Azib Ououraï. Alt. 2,700 m.

Day 5 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Azib Ououraï – Amsouzart

From Azib Ououraï at 2,700 m, the day begins with a steep climb to a high mountain pass. From here, the summit of Jebel Toubkal becomes visible, though still far away. The route continues to the Berber village of Amsouzart, where accommodation is in a traditional Berber guesthouse, close to the daily life of the locals. In the afternoon, there is time to stroll through the friendly village, which still has an authentic watermill for grinding grain.

Walking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight stay in a Berber guesthouse in Amsouzart. Alt. 1,900 m.

Day 6 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Amsouzart – Lac d’Ifni

Today civilization is left behind once more. Passing a few small villages, the trek follows an easy, wide path out of the valley toward the remote and slowly shrinking Lac d’Ifni. The bivouac is set up on the rocky shore of the lake.

Walking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight in a bivouac at Lac d’Ifni. Alt. 2,350 m.

Day 7 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Lac d’Ifni – Toubkal Refuge area

Today’s hike is almost entirely uphill. An early start helps to avoid the strongest sun. The pace is slow and steady, step by step, serving as a good warm-up for the following day. From the high pass of Tizi Ouanoums, there is a final view back over Lac d’Ifni far below. A zigzag descent then leads to the Toubkal refuge area, where base camp is set up for the summit attempt.

Walking time: approximately 6 hours
Overnight in a bivouac near the Refuge du Toubkal. Alt. 3,200 m.

Day 8 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Summit day: Jebel Toubkal

Trek from the camp near the Toubkal Refuge at 3,200 m to the summit of Jebel Toubkal at 4,167 m. The ascent starts as early as possible, before 6:00 a.m., to maximize the chances of clear views. The path is very steep at first, then gradually becomes easier, though the air grows thinner. This may cause headaches or nausea, so paracetamol is recommended. The most important advice is to take it slow, as walking slowly is the best way to acclimatize. The ascent takes about four hours, and the descent back to the refuge about two and a half hours, depending on the group.

Walking time: 6.5–8 hours
Overnight in a bivouac near the Refuge du Toubkal. Alt. 3,200 m.

Day 9 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Descent toward Aremd

A beautiful day of descent on an easy trail, enjoying the afterglow of the summit experience. About halfway, the route passes the remarkable pilgrimage site of Sidi Chamharouch. Tents are pitched below the last village on the route toward Toubkal.

Walking time: 4–6 hours
Overnight in a bivouac below the village of Aremd. Alt. 1,850 m.

Day 10 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Aremd – Tizi Oussem area

The route continues high above the large village of Imlil, surrounded by several smaller settlements. Crossing the Tizi-n-Mezzik pass, the trek enters the colorful Ouïssaden Valley, also pronounced Azaden. Not far from the village of Tizi Oussem, the bivouac is set up.

Walking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight in a bivouac just past Tizi Oussem. Alt. 1,750 m.

Day 11 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Tizi Oussem – Tizgui

The hike leads through the deserted scrubland of the foothills of Toubkal National Park toward the Tizi Tougdal Pass. In the small village of Tizgui, accommodation is in a Berber guesthouse, where two nights are spent.

Walking time: 5–6 hours
Overnight in a Berber guesthouse in Tizgui. Alt. 1,900 m.

Day 12 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Day hike to Ameslane

A pleasant day hike to the village of Ameslane is planned. Upon returning to Tizgui, it feels almost like coming home. The villagers, especially the children, are delighted to welcome the group back for a second night.

Walking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight in a Berber guesthouse in Tizgui. Alt. 1,900 m.

Day 13 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Tizgui – Tiziane

From Tizgui, the route crosses back into the Ouïssaden Valley. Near the village of Tiziane, the final bivouac is set up. In the evening, with drum music and singing, there is a warm farewell to the Moroccan guides, with whom a close bond has been formed.

Walking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight in a bivouac near the village of Tiziane. Alt. 1,700 m.

Day 14 – Jebel Toubkal (15 days)
Return to Marrakech

From the bivouac, the route first descends to cross a mountain stream, followed by a final steep climb to a high pass overlooking the beautiful Ouïssaden Valley. After a last picnic lunch in nature, the descent back toward civilization begins. At the paved road, transport is waiting to return to Marrakech. After a heartfelt farewell to the local team, the group arrives back in the lively city in just over an hour.

Walking time: 4–5 hours
Overnight stay in a riad hotel in the Marrakech medina. Alt. 453 m.
